A Long Way Gone

In language arts class we just finished a book called A Long Way Gone. It is about a boy named Ishmael and his journey to find safety and comfort from the war in Sierra Leone. He starts out with his brother and friends from his village, but after several mishaps they get separated and never see each other again. Ishmael is very timid at first but once he is alone for such a long time he gets used to the quiet. Well, I got to go now...read my next post!!!

To Kill a Mockingbird

I just started reading the book To Kill a Mockingbird. It takes place in an old country town called Maycomb. It's about a boy named Jem and a girl named Scout, they are siblings. I red about half of the book but it got really boring so I stopped reading it. It was about a black man who was not treated fairly and he was sentenced to life in jail for something he didn't do. Of course, because he was black everyone just though he was lying. Everyone that is except for Atticus, Scout and Jem's dad. This book was not interesting and I would not recomend it for many people.

The Time Travelers Wife

OMG! I love this book... but I wouldn't recommend it for younger readers. It's about a guy named Henry who time travels, but he can't control when he goes or comes. This book is really weird though because when he is older he travels back in time and meets a girl named Clare. only when he meets her she is six and he is thirty something. In present time though they only have an eight year age difference... I think. Over time he always returns back to Clare's house and they build a strong friendship. So, when she gets older and he meets her in the present they are about the same age. Long story short, they get married and have one daughter named Alba. I finished the book last night and it is soooo sad. I won't say exactly how it happens, in case any of you guys want to read it, but he dies. Obviously!!! It is so sad though the way it happens,. Early on in the book he gets shot, and you think it going to end there but of course there is so much of the story left it can't be like that. What you don't know at that point is that he was older then and so when he is that age in his present he dies. It's amazing how attached you can get to characters in a book, any ways it was really really sad. But you should definitely read it!!

Polls!!

Hey guys vote on some of my polls!!

Detectives in Togs 6

Ok, so basically the boys are rescued by their teacher and Lukos, who btw is really Tellus Lukos is just a fake identity he used to make more money, escaped to the roof. He though he would be tricky and used the boys old trick by jumping into the Baths of Diana. What he didn't know though was the baths had already been drained for the night, so when he jumped he fell onto concrete. Obviously, he died. The boys and Xantippus arrived at the jail just in time to save Rufus before he was shipped off to be a galley slave. Tellus had bribed the guard into sending him away, in fear that he might be released then Tellus would be found guilty. So the book is just like your typical story, happy, problem, happy again. Well, this is like my last blog so peace out people!! I really won't miss you but I guess that's what I'm supposed to say so... you get the point.

Detectives in Togas 5

Ok, so I've read a lot since I last published a blog, but just try to keep up. I almost finished the book but I wouldn't tell you the ending anyway, just read the book for yourself! So, Rufus was was put in jail and he's been in there for three days without any food or water. The rest of the boy make up with Caius when he tells them that he never thought that Rufus would actually be thrown in jail. So the whole gang is back together, well except for Rufus cause as we know he is in jail. When they are all planning in their cave trying to find a way to help Rufus their teacher comes in, Xantippus. They all try to devise a plan, but they are unsuccessful. It starts raining and Antonius sees someone walking towards the bakery. Right away he recognizes him as Tellus. (I read about Tellus after my last blog, Antonius went to visit him). Xantippus says that the boys should go over to the bakery and see why someone as rich as Tellus would go to the bakery alone. But the boys have to stick together or else danger could come to them. When they get inside the bakery Tellus is gone, and no where in sight. The owner of the shop said he went out the back but when the boys look they just see a big wall... but wait, there's Lukos' house! There is a little window that is just big enough for them to squeeze through, but they have to be quiet. When they get inside they see Lukos but don't see Tellus anymore. They start to look around and suddenly Lukos comes out from behind a curtain and tells them they are trapped. He tells the boys everything; how he was the one who wrote on the temple, how he assaulted their teacher, he was the one who got Rufus accused. Lukos opened the door to the cellar and was getting ready to push them in when all of them attacked him at once. They were struggling, so Caius took a nearby stool and whacked Lukos on the back of his head. He instantly fell to the ground and the boys thought he was dead. Well that's all for this post, if you reeeeeeeally want to know more then just wait for another one. Who knows how long that could take. :)

Detectives in Togas 4

On their way to tell Rufus the good news about no school, the boys notice writing on a sacred temple wall made for the emperor. Written in red paint is, Caius is a dumbbell. The handwriting looks the same as Rufus' when he wrote Caius is a dumbbell on a writing tablet. The boys go straight to see Rufus and ask him if he wrote on the temple wall because he will be in a lot of trouble! When they get to his house Rufus denies ever writing that on the temple. He admits he was mad but he would never go to that extreme. The other boys tell Rufus that the Senator already knows and he is going to the town prefect to have Rufus punished. They found all this out when they were at the sight of the crime and Claudia, Caius' little sister came out and told them what she had heard. I personally think that Caius was trying to get back at Rufus and framed him. The boys, excluding Rufus go over to talk to the senator themselves. They talk to the senator and he agrees to call in a professional to see if the handwriting was forged. When Scribonus gets to the senator he compares a copy of Rufus' handwriting to the writing on the temple and concludes they are the same. :(

Detectives in Togas 3

The next day of school, after the boys have a fight, everyone shows up at school, except for Caius and Rufus. When they get there though Xanthos isn't in the room like normal. The boys wait for a while, but then decide to go look for him in his house. (His house is attached to the school.) In the back of the room the boys find a wardrobe and strange noises are coming from it. When they finally decide to open it the boys find their teacher tied up, gagged and not able to move, so they untie him. Xanthos tells them that a burglar came into his house late last night beat him up, tied him up, and threw him into the wardrobe. They all started looking around to see what night be missing, but no one could find anything missing except for a few simple mathematics books. Xanthos is so badly hurt though, that he tells the boys there will be a vacation from school for a while. Then he adds that Rufus can come back, he just said that to give him a really good scare. With that the boys decide to leave and go find Rufus to tell him the good news, there won't be any school for a while!

Detectives in Togas 2

I am reading the book Detectives in Togas. It is pretty good so far, but I'm not very far along yet. It is about young Roman boys who attend a private Roman school called Xanthos School. Their teacher, Xanthos owns the school. They don't call him Xanthos though, they call him Xanippus, secretly of course. The boys are mischievous, and one day when they all should be reciting their Greek words, Rufus, a boy who attends the school, writes on the chalk board, Caius is a dumbbell. This causes a lot of ruckus and Caius and Rufus start fighting. Both Caius and Rufus get into trouble, and Rufus is told he can never come back to Xanthos School.

Detectives in Togas

I am going to read the book, Detectives in Togas. I love reading mysteries, and that is the genre of this book. It's about a boy who is accused of something that he didn't do and his friends try to save him. It takes place in ancient Rome mostly by a temple, which is where the main action takes place.
